As part of the build up to Sarah & Tim's Wedding Day on Saturday May 24th, Heart FM interviewed Hannah at Little Fish Events to get her professional opinion on the financial implications of a planning your Big Day. Don't forget to tune into Heart 106 on May 20th. Here are our money saving tips to beat the credit crunch!
number one; better late than never
With a late afternoon wedding, you only have to cater for your guests once. And with food and beverage expenses making up around 20% of your wedding budget, it’s a great place to trim the costs.
number two; shopaholics
Yes you’ve fallen in love with your dream dress in a gorgeous boutique, but it doesn’t mean they are selling at the best price. Get three quotes, search the internet and if necessary, practice your bartering skills. Regardless of what the assistant says, the dress will still be there next week.
number three; excel in excel
Open a spreadsheet, plan your budget and then stick to it. By being honest with each other about the type of wedding you want, and the amount you have to spend with mean less stress and less arguments later on. Factor in a contingency of 10% so if you have a budget of £8,000 then plan to spend £7,250 and leave £750 for emergencies.
number four; invest in a thermos
Saying you are going to cut back on everything you enjoy doing in order to splash out on an Ian Stuart dress may seem realistic when you are planning your budget, but let’s face it, it’s not going to happen. Plan to cut out one treat, put the money in a jar each day and see the saving grow over the months. If you forego a coffee on the way to work every other morning, you will have a piggy bank worth a pair of Jimmy Choos by the end of the year. And a themos is just so now!
number five; up close and personal
At the end of the day, remember what’s happening. You are getting married. It’s not all about a wedding, its about you and your partner saying ‘I do’ in front of your loved ones. So the flower ribbon is two shades lighter then the bridesmaids dresses. Does it really matter? Just relax and enjoy the day.
We would like to wish Sarah and Tim, winners of 'The Perfect Wedding' all the very best for a happy and healthy future together. Enjoy your special day.
